Jimmy Choo, Where are You?

I was watching Oprah and saw today's episode "Real People Behind Big Names". The man behind Elmo and the woman who inspired Barbie were revelead for the first time, along with famous designers like Marc Jacobs and Jimmy Choo. Marc Jacobs is the the very famous designer of pricey clothes and accessories. He was personally interviewed by Oprah about his struggles in life before his fame. Next was supposedly the person behind Jimmy Choo shoes. I've heard so much about this ridiculously priced shoe wear. I am still in awe and disbelief on how anyone would spend 500 bucks on shoes. For me it's just shoes and I really don't see a big difference from the ones sold at a lesser price. Yes it's pretty and sexy but to stick 500 dollars on its price tag is insane.

Ok back to my story. As the person behind the Jimmy Choo shoes was about to be revealed, I instinctively expected Jimmy Choo himself to seat on Oprah's leather couch. It would also be a very big boost on my Asian spirit, to know that a fellow Asian has survived, conquered and has been successful in a ruthless and capitalist society.

But no, it was a white English woman named Tamara Mellon who is the president and founder of Jimmy Choo. She supposedly met the real Jimmy Choo, a cobbler or a shoemaker in Malaysia and was inspired by his creativity and ideas of personalizing shoes to please it's customers.

"At first, Tamara would commission Jimmy to create shoes for special projects. Then she came up with a bigger plan to create a line of shoes made with Jimmy Choo's artistry that would be available to everyone. Jimmy Choo signed off on the idea, freeing Tamara to take his name and run with it. Tamara's father backed his daughter financially, and in 1996, the first London based Jimmy Choo store opened. After 10 years, Jimmy Choo is now worth an estimated $325 million, with 40 locations worldwide, making Tamara Mellon one of the most successful businesswomen in Britain."--Oprah.com

Signed off on the idea? I wonder what Jimmy Choo thinks about this right now. I mean whatever he's worth, he could make soooo much more and more importantly, the recognition he deserves not just some Malaysian cobbler.

Well may be he wasn't interested in business but at least don't give that woman or anyone else permission to use your name and idea. It was his idea all along that inspired the whole line of one-of-a-kind shoes. I couldn't help but smirk upon the words president and founder. It just kills me knowing that another minority was used and bypassed. He should have involved himself into this whole shoe empire that's now worth $325 million instead of signing off the idea. She probably used some big terminologies on this poor cobbler and scared him off the business. Sorry, really getting carried away here. No one but Jimmy Choo knows what really happened, or maybe he is happy with it, I don't know. All I can say is... SAYANG NAMAN.

I want my own MINI

Sorry for being MIA again. I usually have these dry spells when I just don't have anything interesting to write about or may not be inspired enough to post one up. So I thought, and thought about it. Didn't want to plague anyone with my oh-so-reliable source of emotional and psychological stress (a.k.a inlaws). I wanted it to be about something I'm happy writing, thinking and dreaming of.

Happy thoughts...

Why not write about the MINI.

I have always liked its style, size, unique colors since I saw it here in the US six years ago. Since then, I've kept an eye on it and categorized it as one of my petty, impulsive and fleeting WANTS, never as a NEED. All I wanted was a car. As long as it runs and could take me anywhere, I'm good.

But as time passed my infatuation grew stronger. It was no longer a temporary thing since I still have my eyes set on it regardless of the countless models of cars passing by. Meaning, I still like it.

We're still paying for one of our two cars, so buying a new one right now is not a priority but I have a feeling that it would be my turn to choose our next car (since my husband chose the last one we bought). He was also seriously considering it and would rather have a MINI instead of a toyota Yaris Liftback or Scion XA. I made it clear that all I want is a small car...I mean smaller than your usual compact car. I often joke that it's not a car it's Half a car. But when I learned that the cute little mini is a BMW (See, that's how I knew I really wanted it. It wasn't about the name it's purely about the style. So I wasn't aiming for a B-M-W. I knew maintaining those kind of cars burn holes in your wallet), I knew what it entailed. More cash. So I would have to settle for something more affordable, hence the yaris or XA.

But then a glimmer of hope opened when my husband considered and actually happened to like it as well. So as soon as we get our first priorities done and having our second car paid, I'll have my very own, smallzilla. I'm in no hurry. I'm just itching to get a feel on it. I'm pestering my husband into test driving it one of these days so I'd finally stop imagining how it's like to drive one.

Two years of blogging

Yesterday was actually the anniversary of when I started blogging. I just happen to look at my previous posts trying to find out the exact day and was surprised that I have missed it.

Nonetheless, here's to the most wonderful way of venting my thoughts, feelings, opinions and everyday life..Image hosted by Photobucket.com
